New Records of Festive Anole Populations on Pacific Coast of Mexico and in Panama

Anolis sagrei now established on the Pacific coast of Mexico.

Anolis sagrei, the brown or festive anole, continues its march through Central America (see previous posts on the species elsewhere in Mexico and in Costa Rica, not to mention South America). New reports reveal populations on the Pacific coast of Mexico (figures above and below) and in Panama City. Where next?

These little guys are everywhere I introduced a bunch by accident in So Cal. in the late 60’s they did very well and had lots of kids !

Last month I checked the population of Anolis sagrei from Limón, Costa Rica, only known in a garden of palms surrounded a gas station. I do not found any animals there. I think that the cleaning of palm leaves and the cut of grass disturbed the habitat for this species. I feel so because I remember many lizards retrieve under the palm leaves when somebody close to them, now there is no place to hide.
