Brown Anole Colonizes Canada

Let’s hear it for global warming! Ryan Vince Photography’s Facebook page reported that this brown anole was found in Ontario. Probably still too cold there for the festive anoles to survive, but who know’s in a warming world? Here’s what the FB page had to say: “This little hitchhiker is a Brown Anole that has somehow made its way from Florida all the way down to Ontario, Canada (2000km). I found him in a mulch pile at a local aggregate facility. It seems that he had managed to make it through two sets of wood grinders and now resides in a Vivarium here with me.”

And this isn’t the first report of the festive one getting to Canada. Recently, we had a post reporting brown anoles not only in Canada, but Denmark. Next: the World!!!

So something strange happened the other day. This little brown anole lizard god running by on its 2 back legs across my desk at work. I would like to add this was in Winnipeg Manitoba!!

Hi, not sure if you will get this. I bought flowers from a local Sam’s Club in Hodgkin, Illinois and after I took all the plants out there was a lizard in my trunk. I believe he came from Canada because that is were the plants were from. Picture attached. Any idea what it is. The pet store said it was a Anole
Your input is appreciated. Thank you

I found one last year on my car in Windsor, Ontario; my landlord gets a lot of plants from Toronto that are imported, so we figured that’s where it came from. My mom still has it and it’s doing well. Today my girlfriend’s sister found one in her dresser drawer in some clothes. In Windsor too. Not sure how it got into their house, yet alone in her dresser

I just went to load the washing machine and as I lifted the clothes there was a brown anole about 1inch long underneath. We already have a corn snake so this little guy came to the right house. We live in Waterloo, Ontario.
